Role Summary
The Human-Centered Design (HCD) Specialist will be responsible for leading the design,
facilitation, and delivery of user-centered digital experiences that align with global health
and development objectives. The role involves working closely with international, multidisciplinary
teams to ensure usability, accessibility, and adoption of digital tools across
diverse contexts. The specialist will guide co-creation processes, develop design artifacts,
and facilitate workshops to ensure user needs remain at the core of all solutions.
Essential Knowledge and Skills
• Proven ability to coordinate, manage, and lead successful design initiatives across
multiple geographical locations.
• Strong skills in UX/UI design, facilitation, and workshop design with the ability to
communicate effectively with non-design experts.
• Demonstrated ability to engage in complex situations involving technical, cultural, and
political dynamics.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within international, multi-cultural, and
multidisciplinary teams across time zones.
• Proactive, flexible, and resourceful, with the ability to work independently under
limited supervision.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills ensuring structured and user-focused design
processes.
Education Qualifications
Essential:
• Advanced university degree in Design, Computer Science, or other relevant fields.
Desirable:
• Additional certifications in Human-Centered Design, UX Strategy, or Interaction Design.
Experience
Essential:
• 5 to 10 years of experience as a UX/UI designer, working with global or international
user bases.
• At least 3 years of experience designing and facilitating in-person, online, and hybrid cocreation
workshops.
Desirable:
• Proficiency in industry-standard UX software such as Figma, Adobe XD, or similar tools.
• Prior experience working with WHO, UN agencies, or other international organizations.
• Portfolio showcasing design projects demonstrating user-centered design methodology.
Language Skills
• Expert knowledge in spoken and written English.
• Intermediate knowledge of another UN language is desirable but not mandatory.
