Lead Network Design Engineer
About Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Network Design Engineer to join a global enterprise infrastructure team responsible for designing and evolving a large-scale network environment spanning 100+ global locations across North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific.
The role focuses on designing, solutioning, and implementing modern SDN and SD-WAN based enterprise networks, integrating data centers, public cloud platforms, and corporate offices into a unified global infrastructure.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on senior engineer capable of translating high-level architecture into deployable low-level network designs, validating solutions through proof-of-concept activities, and ensuring smooth transition into operational environments.
This role requires strong collaboration with network architects, engineering teams, and cross-domain stakeholders, while also providing technical guidance to mid-level engineers and supporting enterprise network transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop scalable enterprise network architectures supporting global connectivity
Translate high-level network architecture into low-level designs and implementation plans
Design, implement, and validate SDN and SD-WAN based enterprise networks
Conduct proof-of-concept testing to validate new network solutions and technologies
Provide advanced troubleshooting and escalation support for complex network issues
Develop and maintain network standards, documentation, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Drive modernization initiatives transitioning legacy networks to global standard network services
Design and implement connectivity solutions for cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS
Develop new enterprise network services supporting IP video, unified communications, and cloud connectivity
Utilize DevOps and CI/CD tools including Jira, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Octopus Deploy, and GitHub Enterprise
Monitor network performance, capacity, and availability using enterprise monitoring tools
Participate in ITIL processes including change, incident, request, and problem management
Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to improve network performance and service reliability
Support M&A integration activities by incorporating acquired environments into the global network infrastructure
Develop RFIs, RFQs, and RFPs and manage vendor evaluation processes
Coordinate with global engineering teams to ensure consistent implementation of network standards
Profile
Strong hands-on background in enterprise network architecture and design
Extensive experience working with large-scale global enterprise networks
Deep understanding of SDN, SD-WAN, WAN, and LAN technologies
Experience designing and implementing cloud networking solutions (Azure and/or AWS)
Strong expertise in routing protocols (BGP, OSPF) and enterprise switching technologies
Experience with network security technologies including Zero Trust, ZTNA, and micro-segmentation
Experience with VPN technologies including site-to-site and client VPN solutions
Strong knowledge of QoS, CoS, DSCP, and WAN optimization technologies
Experience working with network automation tools such as Ansible and Terraform
Experience with enterprise networking platforms including Cisco, Fortinet, Arista, Juniper, Palo Alto, F5, and Ciena
Experience using network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Cloudflare, Infoblox, Zabbix, ThousandEyes, or PRTG
Strong experience working in DevOps or DevSecOps environments
Ability to guide and mentor mid-level network engineers
Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills
