Job Position: Microsoft Fabric Data Architect

Technical Skills

  • 12+ years of overall IT experience with deep expertise in Data Architecture, Azure Data Platform, and Microsoft Fabric solutions.
  • Strong understanding of big data processing, schema-on-read architectures, data lakehouse concepts, and modern enterprise data warehousing.
  • Hands-on architectural and implementation experience with Microsoft Fabric including:
    • Fabric Lakehouse
    • Fabric Warehouse
    • OneLake
    • Fabric Data Engineering
    • Fabric Data Factory
    • Fabric Notebooks
    • Fabric Real-Time Intelligence
    • Power BI within Fabric
    • Fabric Capacity Management

  • Hands-on architectural and implementation experience with Azure Data Factory (ADF), Azure Databricks (PySpark), Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 (ADLS Gen2), Azure Synapse Analytics, and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Proven ability to design scalable, secure, resilient, and cost-efficient data architectures across Azure and Microsoft Fabric ecosystems.
  • Strong proficiency in Python (PySpark mandatory) and SQL; familiarity with Power BI DAX is preferred.
  • Experience designing enterprise-grade ETL/ELT frameworks, metadata-driven pipelines, reusable ingestion patterns, and orchestration strategies.
  • Solid expertise in data modeling methodologies including Kimball, Inmon, Data Vault, and SCD Type 2 for Warehouse and Lakehouse implementations.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance, data quality frameworks, lineage, cataloging, and security models including RBAC, data masking, and row/column-level security.
  • Experience with Microsoft Purview, metadata management, lineage tracking, and governance frameworks.
  • Experience with cost management, capacity planning, performance tuning, and optimization of Azure and Microsoft Fabric workloads.
  • Understanding of Azure infrastructure concepts including networking (VNet, Private Endpoints), identity management (Azure AD, Managed Identity), resource organization, and subscription management.
  • Experience with CI/CD, DevOps practices, Infrastructure as Code (ARM, Bicep, Terraform), and automated deployments for enterprise data platforms.
  • Experience designing semantic layers, data marts, and reporting models for Power BI and Tableau.
  • Experience supporting AI/ML, advanced analytics, and data science workloads through scalable and governed data platforms.

Roles & Responsibilities

Data Architecture & Platform Strategy

  • Define and own the end-to-end Azure and Microsoft Fabric Data Architecture, spanning ingestion, processing, storage, governance, serving, analytics, AI, and visualization layers.
  • Design enterprise-scale Lakehouse architectures leveraging OneLake, Fabric Lakehouse, Fabric Warehouse, and Azure Data Services.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable, reusable, secure, governed, and cost-optimized data platform designs.
  • Establish architecture standards, design patterns, naming conventions, and best practices across Azure and Fabric environments.

Microsoft Fabric Leadership

  • Lead the adoption and implementation of Microsoft Fabric across the enterprise.
  • Architect solutions utilizing Fabric Data Factory, Fabric Notebooks, Fabric Data Engineering, Fabric Warehouse, and Power BI.
  • Define Fabric capacity planning, workload management, governance, monitoring, and optimization strategies.
  • Establish best practices for Fabric Lakehouse implementations, data sharing, and cross-domain data products.
  • Provide architectural guidance for migration from legacy Azure data platforms and Synapse environments to Microsoft Fabric.

Data Engineering & Integration

  • Architect batch, near real-time, and streaming data processing solutions using Azure and Fabric-native services.
  • Design and oversee enterprise ETL/ELT frameworks with robust error handling, logging, monitoring, and recovery mechanisms.
  • Define reusable ingestion frameworks, metadata-driven pipelines, and scalable integration patterns.
  • Lead enterprise data modeling initiatives and ensure proper implementation of warehouse and lakehouse structures.

Governance, Security & Compliance

  • Drive enterprise data governance, data quality, metadata management, lineage, and compliance initiatives.
  • Ensure secure data access through identity management, RBAC, row-level security, column-level security, encryption, and audit controls.
  • Partner with governance teams to implement Microsoft Purview and enterprise data catalog strategies.
  • Establish standards for master data management, reference data management, and data stewardship.

Performance & Cost Optimization

  • Own performance tuning and optimization of Fabric and Azure workloads.
  • Define strategies for compute sizing, workload isolation, capacity planning, and storage optimization.
  • Monitor platform utilization and implement cost optimization best practices.
  • Ensure scalability, reliability, and operational excellence of enterprise data platforms.

Stakeholder Management & Leadership

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, engineering teams, and client architects to align solutions with business objectives.
  • Support solution estimation, technical proposals, RFP responses, and client-facing architecture discussions as a subject matter expert.
  • Evaluate emerging Azure and Microsoft Fabric capabilities and provide architecture recommendations.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, conduct architecture reviews, and ensure delivery excellence.
