Senior Java Developer

What You'll Do
• Design, build and own RESTful API services using Spring Boot 3.x / Java 17, making architectural and integration-pattern decisions.
• Lead the build of integration clients for third-party bureau APIs across multiple protocols - REST/JSON, XML/OFX and SOAP - and their auth models (OAuth2, client certificates/PKI, Basic auth).
• Design data models and persistence with Spring Data JPA / Oracle, and own performance, transactions and query optimization.
• Architect asynchronous result delivery via webhooks, including retry, idempotency and security of callback endpoints; normalize vendor payloads (JSON, MISMO 3.4 XML, PDF/TIFF print images).
• Establish and enforce engineering standards: code reviews, testing strategy (unit/integration/contract), API documentation with OpenAPI/Swagger (SpringDoc), and secure handling of PII under FCRA/ICRAA.
• Mentor junior developers, provide technical guidance, and collaborate with product, QA and compliance stakeholders.
• Use AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot and Claude / Claude Code) to accelerate delivery - generating boilerplate, tests and refactors and speeding up debugging - while critically reviewing all AI-generated output for correctness, security and compliance before it is merged, and guiding the team on responsible AI-tool usage.
Must-Have Skills
• 5-8 years of professional Java experience with strong Core Java (17) - concurrency, collections, streams, JVM fundamentals and solid OOP/design principles.
• Deep, hands-on experience with Spring Boot / Spring MVC building production REST APIs (HTTP semantics, versioning, error handling, JSON).
• Strong SQL and ORM expertise (JPA / Hibernate), including schema design and performance tuning; experience with Oracle preferred.
• Proven experience integrating third-party / external APIs and handling XML and JSON at scale.
• Solid grasp of authentication and security - OAuth2, TLS/client certificates, Basic auth - and secure coding practices.
• Proficient with Maven, Git and CI/CD workflows; experience writing automated tests (JUnit / Mockito).
• Hands-on with AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar) in a professional workflow, with the judgment to validate, refine and take accountability for their output rather than accept it blindly.
Nice-to-Have
• SOAP/WSDL (JAXB), webhooks, message-driven or event-driven designs.
• Experience in the financial / mortgage domain, or with FCRA, MISMO or credit-reporting standards.
• SAML2 / SSO, Spring Security, and secure PII/data-privacy implementations.
• Cloud, containerization (Docker) and observability/monitoring experience.
• Experience defining prompt patterns and team guidelines for AI-assisted development, code review and test generation.
Soft Skills
A hands-on technical leader - detail-oriented, strong communicator and decision-maker, able to mentor others and leverage AI tools to boost team productivity while upholding code quality in a highly regulated, compliance-sensitive domain.
